SELLER’S SECRETS

The Unscalable Thing that Still Works

This week we caught wind of a tweet by a gentleman named Ty who’s texting prospects the morning of a call from his personal number. Simple stuff.

At some point in the last few years, most sales orgs made a quiet trade. They handed the human parts of the process to software and called it efficiency.

Triggered sequences, {FirstName} tokens, automated reminders that technically come from the rep's number but everybody knows aren't. The pitch was scale. Do more with less. Let the machine handle the top of the funnel while you focus on closing.

And this way still works, but there’s something working better in our opinion.

The market has fully priced it in. Prospects have been through enough pipelines that they can smell the automation before they even open the message. So they don't.

Or they do, and they show up to the call with their guard already up. Because the whole experience so far has felt like a disingenuous process they're being moved through rather than a conversation someone actually wanted to have.

Some of the guys winning right now figured something out. The bar for feeling like a real human is embarrassingly low.

You text someone yourself and you're memorable.

You write a note by hand and they keep it.

You show up with something physical, something with their name on it, and they're talking about you after you leave.

None of that is sophisticated. None of it scales. That's the point.

It doesn't have to be all or nothing either. Automations built to feel personal, custom fields that actually mean something, a real number attached with someone watching it. That works too.

But even then, most reps who are honest with themselves gave away more than they should have. Somewhere in the process of optimizing show rates they’ve automated away the part that was actually closing deals.

The part where the prospect felt like someone gave a damn whether they showed up or not.

That part doesn't have a software solution. It's just you, doing the thing that doesn't scale, while everyone else waits for a tool to do it for them.

Someone books with you...
